From the Artist:
"I use fantasy and magical realism to discuss my experience as a BIPOC gay man. Each of these pieces relate to stories in my life, both in specific and general ways. I reused older artwork to make the backgrounds to connect the past to the future. I normally hyper-focus on details… so this is a good departure for me, that allows me to focus on form language.
When I was growing up, my brother went missing. We weren’t allow to talk about it and I struggled with how to process his absence. Much later in life, I realized that a lot of my work incorporates negative space or outlines of things missing. The shape is there, but also not there.
As a child, I used to make shadow puppets and paper dolls. Shadows have always been part of my lexicon."
