From Andrew: I was going through pictures of the ocean, as you do when you're making mermaid artwork, and some popped up of kelp forests and there was this beautiful fiery glow. It looked like a dark chamber filled with columns of swirling fire to me. The wavering swathes of kelp called to mind dancing flames. I thought about warm colors and wanted to capture the feeling of an underwater blaze.
